  • Description Overview
  • Methionine synthase also known as MTR is responsible for the regeneration of methionine from homocysteine. Methionine synthase reductase, encoded by the gene MTRR, is an enzyme that is responsible for the reduction of methionine synthase inside the human body. This enzyme is crucial for maintaining the folate cycle.

    The body uses methionine to make proteins and other important compounds, particularly SAMe, the universal methyl donor. To function properly, MTR requires methylcobalamin (a form of vitamin B12) and MTRR, requires SAMe, B2 and B3

    These 2 genes are crucial for the following;

    • Recycling of Vitamin B12
    • Assisting the uptake of folate to support the methionine cycle
    • Homocysteine recycling

    When these enzymes are underperforming, this is YOUR number 1 reason why someone has a methyl block. You can’t simply change the form of folate you use if someone reacts to METHYL FOLATE - you must get rid of the block!

    Join Carolyn for a deep dive into MTR and MTRR and their role with Vitamin B12 and folate.

    Here's some of the best bits we covered:

    • What is a methyl block?
    • How do you know if someone has a methyl block?
    • How do you undo a methyl block?
    • The environmental influences that affect these enzymes
    • The role of inflammation on these enzymes
    • The significance of low glutathione
    • The genetic SNPs that affect these enzymes
    • The cofactors required for these SNPs
    • What nutrients  / herbs up-regulate or down-regulate these two enzymes

    The methyl block is the number one reason why practitioners STRUGGLE WITH GENETICS AND METHYL FOLATE. If you can identify when there is a methyl block you will have HUGE improvements in patient outcomes very quickly.
